Obtained in Portland, Oregon - The elegance and allure of autumn has always appealed to me. Identifying and capturing this magic is a real challenge. The intricate and beautiful colour palette of this Japanese maple expressed all the qualities of nature I was looking for. I needed to wait for the perfect stillness to press the shutter. The vertical format is extremely challenging but the results are worth it. I carefully composed the shot, it's not the way we normally look at a tree. Paying critical attention to detail drew my attention to the shot, and selecting the perfect aperture between soft and hard focus gave the shot the 3D dimension I am looking for.
